  1. Definitely with you on 1, 5, 8, and any overlap between them.

    I hate it when a book has something like that hidden in it–I managed to start Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, for example, with no idea what was going to happen. 😩

  2. Ditto on 1, 5, 8 — if those topics are included for gratuitous or sensational purposes. On the other hand, in a context in which an issue is presented sensitively and meaningfully, it can be quite a powerful reading experience (for example, The Lovely Bones). I hated Girl With A Dragon Tattoo, because it all felt completely gratuitous and over-the-top to me — made me want to take a shower afterward. I didn’t even realize that Amish fiction was a “thing” until recently. *Scratching head* – I don’t get it. Great list!

  3. I also don’t like Inspirational Romance… I picked up a book a while ago and didn’t realize it was inspirational until I read a chapter or two– how annoying!
