My [former] boss gave me the most excellent idea. She said that she has been keeping a blog about the books that she has recently read and her thoughts on those books. So, I’m attempting the feat.

While I am tweaking this site, I do try to consistently do the following:

  1. I will provide the citation of the book I am reviewing. These are presented in APA format.
  2. I like eye candy and I hope to put in some cool photos of what I’ve been reading.
  3. I can’t stand spoilers. I will not tell the endings of books.
  4. I have a ratings system of pearls. The best score for a book, in my not so humble opinion, is a 5.
  5. Lately, I’ve been hooked on the 1001 Books list. For now, I’m working on the core – the books on all editions.

Please enjoy . . .

  1. Hi, Jorie. I just came across your web site as I recently read The Shack too and found it to be very powerful. I am a literary publicst based in San Diego and am working on the publicity for a memoir I think you might enjoy. It’s called The Suicide Index by Joan Wickersham and is a moving memoir about the loss of her father from suicide in 1991. Please let me know if I may send you a copy. Thanks!

  2. I would just love to have time to read and prepare for our upcoming Page 19 Book Club. We meet the first Wednesday of each month starting at 6 – 7Pm in the Corner Books Library at Houston’s First Baptist Church. So, Jorie, could you please show up???

  5. Hello newest Spikey! I know, a bit corny, eh, but that’s the term that has come to stick for those folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂

Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it, thrown in for good measure.

My promise to you is not to be overbearing, just a couple of posts a day, maybe 3 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great day…

  6. HI Jorie,

I am looking to organize a blog tour from September 7 – September 21. I was hoping you could participate.

My memoir, Who Am I? How My Daughter Taught Me to Let Go and Live Again, was released on August 2, 2014. My book is about my journey into post-partum depression, anxiety disorder, panic attacks, stays in the psych ward, divorce, domestic violence, law school, how I managed to graduate from law school and a beautiful little girl who emerged from all of this chaos. There are two extremely important messages I would like to get across:

One: Postpartum Depression still has a negative stigma attached to it. Women shouldn’t be afraid to seek treatment if they feel something is wrong.

Two: Emotional abuse is a form of domestic violence and is not to be taken lightly. It took 10 strangers in a group therapy session in the hospital psych ward to tell me that I was in an emotionally abusive marriage and that I needed to get out for the sake of my daughter.

I am looking for hosts to review my book, feature an author interview or just copy and paste my media kit. Please let me know if you are interested by replying to this e-mail. I REALLY appreciate this!

  7. I got your contact info from The Book Blogger’s Site. I’ve written my second book of the quadrilogy, “The Universes of God 2: The Chronicles of Jesus Christ.” I noticed from your profile that you frequently review Christian Fiction books. If you think you might be interested in reading my book and posting an honest review, I’ll gladly send a complimentary copy if you’ll reply with your interest. There is no obligation, of course.

    Best Regards

    Twe Stephens,
